5 Unhealthy Habits That Ruin The Normal Functioning Of Your Body

Most of us in recent times, intentionally or unintentionally living on an unhealthy routine that is slowly leading to the degradation of one’s physical and mental well-being. From staying awake late at night to continue being busy on the phone here is the list of the most commonly followed unhealthy habits that ruin the normal functioning of the body.

  1. Staying awake too late at night

Sleep is the most essential element in order to lead a healthy lifestyle which we often tend to ignore. It has several health benefits such as improved mood, recovery from exercise, enhanced cognition, Increased testosterone production in men, and helps to regulate appetite. An average adult must get at least 8-10 hours of sleep in order to get the above-mentioned benefits of sleep. 

Most teenagers stay awake late for studies or watching movies and series and working for work. These have long-term health impacts such as increased hunger and grabbing snacks in order to satisfy it, insomnia, and reduced satiety affecting Leptin and Ghrelin levels.

Ways to fix it: 

  1. Set a particular sleep duration that you can follow every day and it must be at least 8 hours. 

  2. Turn off all lights and away from all your electronic devices such as your phone or laptop 30 minutes before your bedtime.

  3. Exercise regularly will make your body crave sleep and rest.

  4. Avoid caffeine or try reducing your consumption level.

2. Living a sedentary lifestyle

Lack of physical moment will definitely hold you back from being healthy. Having a desk job is both physically and mentally tiring. It not only weakens your muscular strength but also has several health effects such as high blood pressure, obesity, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart disease, stroke, etc.

Soon you will feel a constant lethargy and laziness and you will lose interest in works involving physical activity. In turn, it will also degrade your thinking or cognitive ability.

Ways to fix it:

  1. Start with beginner exercises

  2. Take the help of a trainer to chart you an exercise routine

  3. Don’t sit for too long in one place. You might read a book while changing locations.

  4. Go for night jogs if you are too busy throughout the day. 

3. Excluding vegetables and fruits from your diet :

Excluding essential vegetables from your diet can interrupt the normal functioning of your digestive system and other related health problems. This can deprive you of the nutrients that your body needs to maintain good health. Vegetables are powerhouses of all essential vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, a good source of dietary fiber. They are naturally low in fat and calorie content. Intaking vegetables and fruits on a daily basis help you reduce your blood pressure level, improves eye health, improves skin condition, has a positive impact on blood sugar level, reduces the risk of heart diseases and strokes.

Ways to fix it:

  1. Try including small portions of vegetables in every meal

  2. Make your vegetables tasty by adding flavors in the form of salads or cooked nicely. 

  3. Choose vegetables and fruits that have multiple benefits.

4. Eating too much junk food

Obviously, as we know eating junk is the worst food habit that can collapse your body system. Most junks have no essential nutrients that are helpful for your body. Junks contain mostly carbohydrates, fats, and sugar that in turn increases your chances of obesity increases the risk of medical issues like diabetes, heart diseases, digestion problems, lowers the immune system,  high blood pressure, etc.

  1. Try replacing your junks with tasty salads instead 

  2. Curb your temptations for junks and reduce your visit to restaurants. 

  3. Remove all junk such as chips, cold drinks, etc that might lie in your fridge. 

5. Consumptions of alcohol and smoking

Drinking and smoking can have long-term health impacts and also can lead to death. In the United States, approximately 95,000 people died due to health complications arising from excessive drinking and smoking each year from 2011-2015.  It causes high damage to your liver, elevates blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, digestive problems, etc. 

Smoking is known to cause damage to your lungs reducing lung capacity and can lead to serious illnesses such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, heart strokes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), etc.

Ways to fix it:

  1. Throw away your alcohol and cigarettes from your stock. 

  2. Try having sugar-free chewing gums when you have the temptation to smoke 

  3. Switch to soft drinks from hard drinks

  4. Get help from the doctor. 


The above-stated unhealthy habits can affect your lifestyle to a large extent to such an extent that they might reduce your longevity for form serious and incurable health complications. To maintain a healthy routine encompassing your diet, activities, interactions are essential to lead a healthy life.
